DUSTIN JOHNSON RECEIVES THE 2008 DR. FRANCIS SCHEID AWARD

(Myrtle Beach, SC: For Immediate Release) On Thursday evening, November 13, 2008, the Dr. Fracis Sheid Award was presented at the First Annual Myrtle Beach Golf Conference. The presentation was held at the Holiday Inn Hard Rock Parkway at 6:00PM. This year's winner and honoree was PGA Tour star Dustin Johnson.

Dustin Johnson won his first PGA tour event, the Turning Stone Resort Championship, with a nine under par 279 in October 2008. He was a member of the winning 2007 U.S Walker Cup and the U.S. Palmer Cup teams. Dustin was a first-team All-American at Coastal Carolina University for two seasons (2006 and 2007). Dustin was also a three-time Big South Conference Player of the Year. Dustin is the all-time scoring leader at Coastal Carolina (72.26) and holds the lowest season scoring average in school history (70.40). He won the 2007 Northeast Amateur and the 2007 Monroe Invitational.

On February 16, 2009, Dustin Johnson won the AT&T National Pebble Beach Pro-Am. This is his second PGA Tour win.

The Dr. Francis Sheid Award will be given annually to a person or organization that makes a major contribution or impact to golf in Myrtle Beach. Dr. Scheid was a mathematics professor at Boston University. He was a charter member on the USGA Handicap Research Team and was an integral part of the group that developed the USGA Slope system.

Often called "Professor Golf," Dr. Scheid has written numerous articles for Golf Digest and has been a presenter at the prestigious St. Andrews' (Scotland) Scientific Congress of Golf from 1990 to 2002. In addition, Dr. Scheid has written four books on golf: "You Can't Get Lost on a Golf Course," "Golfers Come in All Shapes and Sizes," "Student of the Game," and "Tiger Numbers and Annika Numbers." The Myrtle Beach Golf Conference is honored that Dr. Scheid and his family, from Nashua, NH, have authorized the Conference organizers to give this annual award in his honor.
